Winter is coming. I dream of warmth and comfort in the house and, in this regard, I want to touch on the topic of stoves and fireplaces as design objects. They will warm the frosty cold, give the smell of firewood and the flicker of fire.
In one of the projects, the task was to save the stove when remodeling and combining the kitchen and living room into a studio. Of course, already fairly modernized, reduced to the smallest possible size, but still, it remained an oven. And despite the fact that I had to break my head in search of the optimal layout, they still gave it its due and left it the center of the composition. The task of our stove in the project is to become the soul of the space, to warm and gather the whole family in front of its fire, while remaining safe.
What if you also want to install a stove or fireplace in your home, especially since modern technology allows you to do this in an apartment. Here are some simple and most important rules:
- fireplaces and stoves are laid out from fire-resistant materials;
- the floor in front of the firebox to a width of 50 cm must be made of non-combustible materials;
- the inner surface of the chimneys is smoothly overwritten;
- the distance from the chimneys to the wooden parts of buildings (rafters, walls, beams) must be at least 20 cm using asbestos, mineral wool, tiles, etc.
When choosing facing materials, you need to remember the ratio of two such physical quantities as heat capacity and thermal conductivity. The material must heat up relatively quickly and release heat slowly. Among the facing materials, one can say that the Finnish tulikivi - talcomagnesite has an ideal ratio of these values. If you are not satisfied with its price or appearance, you can choose another material, taking the properties of tulikivi as a standard.
By the way, metal stoves that are now popular have a couple of weak points. Although they heat up quickly, they also cool down quickly, heating the space unevenly and creating an additional risk for others, to burn themselves, for example. Therefore, if space permits, it is still better to create a beautiful portal for a metal furnace. And how - this is the task of specialists.Winter is coming.
